Continuous Ink Jet (CIJ)
Brand M, inc. manufactures ink, makeup, and wash for continuous ink jetting use in many applications. Our inks are produced in a varierty of colors and are both water and solvent based.
Inks are available in a wide variety of colors.
What is CIJ?
CIJ, or Continious Ink Jet, is a process of inkjetting where a continious stream of charged droplets are ejected from a nozzle.
These charged drops then pass an electric field where they can be pushed or pulled to be either printed onto the substrate or deflected
back into the printing system to be reused. This technology is used extensivly in product coding (ie expiration dates)
and many other applications.
What is Make-Up?
The make-up that we’re talking about has nothing to do with eyeliner or lipstick. Make-up is essentially an ink without any colorant in it.
It is used to “make-up” for the solvent that is lost to evaporation during the CIJ process. The surface area of these tiny drops is very
large in comparison to their volume, much of the solvent is evaporated during a droplet’s short trip through the air. The droplets that
are not targeted for the substrate are reclaimed albeit with less volume due to evaporation and are then recycled into the system.
The make-up replaces this lost fluid to ensure consistent ink performance.
